WHAT IS A SWEET CART?

A sweet cart is a free-standing wooden trolley that holds an open sweet display for your guests. Ours come in two finishes. The rustic wooden cart suits barn and marquee receptions where the timber sits naturally against exposed beams. The white wooden cart is cleaner and brighter, and works better in hotel function rooms and orangeries.
Sweets sit in glass jars along the cart with scoops and paper bags beside them. Guests help themselves throughout the evening, which makes a sweet cart one of the few decor pieces that keeps working after the wedding breakfast ends. We dress each cart with foliage or coloured ribbon to match your scheme, so the cart reads as part of the room rather than a catering table parked against a wall. Couples often set a candy cart-style dessert display or a crisp wall beside it for a full late-night food corner.

HOW MANY SWEETS DO YOU NEED?

Most couples allow around 100g of sweets per guest, which is roughly one full paper bag each for a 100-guest wedding; that means about 10kg of sweets in total. Guests who visit the cart twice tend to be balanced out by those who never visit at all, so 100g per head holds up well in practice across a full evening.

  • Evening guests only: calculate on your evening headcount, not your day headcount.

  2. We agree on your timings. We arrange delivery, set-up, and collection around your venue’s schedule, not a fixed slot.
  3. We deliver and set up. Our team arrives before your guests and arranges the jars, scoops, bags, signage and styling on site.
  4. Your guests help themselves. The cart stays out through the evening reception with no staffing needed.
  5. We collect. Anything left in the jars is yours to take home.

At Curradine Barns, the cart sits comfortably in an evening reception space away from the dining tables, where a sweet cart usually works hardest, as guests drift towards it once the band starts.

Manor Houses and Hotels

Manor house and hotel function rooms suit the white wooden cart better. Patterned carpets and warm lighting can make a rustic finish look heavy, while white lifts against a darker room. At Hogarths Stone Manor, the cart works best positioned where guests already gather rather than against a far wall, since these venues tend to have fixed service points that draw people in one direction.

Marquees and Tipis

Marquees give a sweet cart room to breathe. Position it along a canvas wall where the glass jars catch the festoon lighting, and it becomes a feature rather than a side table. Marquee receptions also run long, so the 100g-per-guest guide above matters most here; guests return to the cart over a longer evening.

Allergen information is displayed on signage at the cart on the day, so guests can see what is in each jar before they help themselves. If you have a guest with a serious allergy, please tell us when you book, and we will take it into account when we stock the cart. Couples who want full control over ingredients often choose the £70 cart-only option and supply their own sweets, which we will still arrange and style for you.

How far in advance should I book?

Book as early as you can for a summer Saturday. Sweet carts are one of our most requested items between May and September, and we hold a limited number. Couples typically book 9 to 12 months ahead alongside their wider decor, which also fits our payment schedule. If your date is closer than that, still get in touch; we can often help at shorter notice, particularly midweek and outside peak season.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, we have public liability insurance in place for every booking. Most wedding venues ask suppliers for proof of cover before they allow set-up, and we can send our certificate directly to your venue coordinator on request. Can I see the sweet cart in person before booking?

Yes, our Droitwich Spa showroom is open by appointment. You can see both the rustic and white wooden carts, look at the jars and styling, and talk through colour options in person. Seeing the cart at full size helps with deciding where it will sit at your venue. Book an appointment through our contact page, and we will arrange a time that suits you.

We agree delivery, set-up and collection times with you and your venue when you book, so the cart is in place when you want it and cleared when your venue needs the room back. Can I have a doughnut wall as well as a sweet cart?

Yes, the doughnut wall add-on is £35 and holds up to 35 doughnuts. We supply doughnuts at £1.50 each, so a full wall of 35 comes to £52.50 plus the £35 stand. Couples usually stand the doughnut wall next to the sweet cart to make one larger evening food display. If you want a bigger late-night spread, our Crisp Wall pairs well with both.

Is the sweet cart suitable for outdoor or marquee weddings?

Yes, sweet carts work well in marquees and tipis. The cart sits on any firm, level surface, including marquee flooring. For fully outdoor set-ups, we would ask that the cart be under cover; open sweets and glass jars do not do well in direct sun or rain. Talk to us about your layout, and we will advise on the best position.
