The Tortworth Court Orangery is a glass domed Victorian conservatory, so it needs fewer, stronger decor pieces than a plain room. The Wedding House has styled real weddings here. This guide covers focal points, daylight and evening light, and how to reuse ceremony flowers at the reception.
The Tortworth Court Orangery is the room The Wedding House knows best at this South Gloucestershire venue. We are a wedding decor hire business based in Droitwich Spa, and we have styled real weddings inside it. This guide covers what works when you style a wedding under all that glass.
The Orangery was built in 1874 as a conservatory, with a domed glass roof and stone windows. Tortworth Court’s own website says the room holds up to 100 guests. Confirm your own numbers with the venue for your table plan.
The room has a lot of natural character already, and that changes how you style it. Stone, glass and daylight do visual work before you add a single flower. Many couples use the Orangery for the whole day. The room is turned around between the ceremony, the wedding breakfast and the evening.
We would rather add three strong pieces than ten small ones in a room like this. At a pastel Easter wedding at Tortworth Court, we used our Penelope collection. A broken floral arch stood at the front of the room. It became the focal point of the ceremony without competing with the stone and glass.
Height works in the Orangery, but it needs balance. Statement florals with lower, candle-led table styling sit well against the scale of the room. We build one strong focal point at the end of the aisle. Aisle styling on either side then leads the eye toward it.
The Orangery looks different at midday and in the evening, so plan for both. In daylight, sun through the glass roof gives flowers and foliage a natural, slightly bleached look. Pale ranges suit that light. In the evening, candlelight against glass and stone feels warmer and more intimate.
If your day runs from ceremony to evening in the Orangery, plan two lighting moods. Tealights and candles carry most of that change. They are one of the simplest ways to shift the feel of the room.
Ceremony flowers in the Orangery can usually move into your reception. At the Penelope wedding, the low aisle flowers moved to dress the top table. The flower balls from the plinths went onto the round guest tables. The dressed chairs carried straight through to the wedding breakfast.
The couple got a full look all day from one set of pieces. It works well in the Orangery, where ceremony and reception often share the room.
Do not decorate every surface just because the room is large. The architecture is already doing a lot of visual work. Too much decor competes with it. Also check how a piece sits against stone and glass before you choose it.
No. The glass roof and stonework already give the room strong character. We usually recommend fewer, stronger pieces.
Tortworth Court’s website states up to 100 guests. Confirm the figure with the venue for your own layout.
Yes. Our showroom in Droitwich Spa is open by appointment. You can see pieces from the Penelope collection in person.
Both work, for different reasons. Daylight gives a natural, airy look. Evening candlelight is warmer.
Yes, in most cases. We did exactly this at a real Tortworth Court wedding.
